A simple device for measuring the rake anle when setting up the drilling jig on the drill press can be made with a cheap plastic protractor and a small block of wood. The block of wood should be thick enough to stand on its own. The protractor is fixed to the block by a pin through a very small hole drilled at the point of origin. A pin with a large head, such as a map pin, will be best. To make the action more positive a small lead weight can be glued onto the protractor above the mark at 90°. With the device on a level surface, an index mark is made on the wood block at the 90° mark. |
